West Herts College Funding

West Herts College in Hemel is set to receive £2.85 million. It will be used to repair buildings and address structural issues. This will ensure the college stays open to continue to educate learners. I am committed to creating opportunities for young people.

Delivering on transport

I have delivered on returning an early morning train to Apsley station. I've been campaigning for London Northwestern Railway to bring back an earlier service after 07:24 was lost. I'm pleased to share that following several meetings with the train company, they have confirmed a new 7:28 am service.

I have successfully campaigned to get a brand-new bus route, known as the Tiger Line, instated. The route will go from Hemel to London Victoria.

I know how much these improvements mean to commuters.

Repairing Potholes

I’m pleased to share that £1.6bn has been allocated to repair roads and fix potholes nationally. This will save Hemel residents money and making our roads safer.

For Hertfordshire this represents a 36% increase in funding to invest in effective, long-term repairs for our roads. I have written to Hertfordshire County Council urging them to use the increased funding.

Labour is delivering

Labour’s plan going forward

  • We have already begun delivering for 3.5 million workers by raising the minimum wage. A boost worth up to £1,400. Wages are rising faster than prices, with the average worker set to be £700 better off over the next year.
We are making the dream of home ownership a reality again by building 1.5 million affordable homes across the UK.

  • We have invested £26 billion in our NHS, resulting in waiting lists falling by over 190,000 since Labour took office. We have ended the junior doctor strikes within four weeks of taking office. As a result meaning 500,000 vital appointments and operations saved.
We are also rebuilding NHS dentistry by making 700,000 extra urgent appointments.

  • We are rolling out free breakfast clubs for every primary schools, giving children a healthy start to the day, saving parents up to £450 a year.
We are also capping the costs of school uniforms will save families £50 a year.
Taking steps to invest an extra £2.3 billion into schools, and recruiting 6,500 more teachers. We are also unlocking up to 10,000 more apprenticeships a year, to ensure our children learn vital skills.
We are reforming SEND with another £740 million of capital investment to create more specialist facilities in mainstream schools.

  • Labour is putting police back on the beat with 13,000 extra neighbourhood policing roles, with a named officer in every community.
Labour is clamping down on anti-social behaviour with new Respect Orders to ban repeat offenders from town centres, and giving police powers to seize vehicles that cause havoc to communities, like off-road bikes

Also, £4.8 billion is being invested in motorways and major A-roads to improve transport links across the country.
The average driver will save up to £60 at the pumps thanks to Labour’s fuel duty freeze.

  • We are going to level the playing field between high streets and online retailers. Labour plans to permanently cut business rates for retail, hospitality and leisure properties by asking online giants to pay their fair share.
Also, we are supporting our high streets with over 1 million small businesses benefiting from the increase in the threshold at which they pay national insurance.

  • We have been tackling criminal gangs through a new Border Security Command, which is backed with £150 million of funding.
